About This Program

Learn how to improve business performance using data mining and applying business and big data analytics with an MS in Applied Business Analytics from American Public University (APU).

APU’s online master’s in business analytics program challenges you to use problem solving, strategic and critical thinking, and communication to create better management analytics tools that aid business processes and decision making.

Our hands-on MS applied business analytics covers data mining, text mining, predictive analytics, optimization and simulation, and data management, SAS, Six Sigma concepts, social media analytics, and enterprise analytics.

A final project in our Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs-accredited program allows you to apply learned tools to your own real-life professional scenario. Recent projects have included “Predictive Factors in Workplace Injuries” and “A Predictive Model for College Success.”

What You Will Do

  1. Interpret results and outputs from statistical analysis operations

Preparation for the Applied Business Analytics Project/Capstone begins on day one of a student's graduate program of study. The theories, research methods, analytical skills, analytical tools, and substantive knowledge obtained through their master's curriculum provide the basis for a major data analysis project. Students will work closely with the assigned faculty member to develop the subject matter of their project. The experiential or practical component of the class aims to apply learning in an aspect of interest related to the degree and concentrations of the student’s areas of specialization. It is understood to be a supervised project where data is collected from or about an approved organization. The selection of an organization or site for the project must relate to the content of the student’s course work and/or analytics concentration. Goals of the applied project will be submitted by the student using an application for approval to the faculty member and/or Program Director. The organization will serve as an opportunity to experience the practice of business or big data analytics. This option will act as a capstone of the student’s program and is to be completed in the student’s final semester.

Admission Requirements

All APU master's degree and graduate certificate programs require you to have earned a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Students are required to take BUSN604 as their first required course. If you have a bachelor's degree that is accredited by ACBSP, AACSB, or IACBE, you are NOT required to take the course listed above, and instead may take one graduate-level elective course.

Please be prepared to submit a legible copy of your valid government-issued photo ID (civilian students) or government-issued JST or CCAF transcript (military students) upon request.
